Pauline was born 7 Apr 1856 in St. Leon, Dearborn County, Indiana. As early as 1874, she was living in Cincinnati and working as a servant. In the 1880 federal census, Pauline and Mary HOFFMIER, ages 24 and 20, are listed in the household of Jacob and Amanda Brock, Mound Street, Cincinnati, Ohio. They were both working as servants.
Pauline married Lorenz (Lawrence) KLUMPP. Lorenz was born in Mösbach, Baden, Germany to Moritz KLUMP and Christina LAMM 1. He is listed with his parents, living in Cincinnati, in both the 1870 and 1880 Federal Census. In 1880, he was working as a carpenter. The 1877-1880 Cincinnati City Directories gives the address of 680 Main for Lorenz and other KLUMP family members. Sometimes the surname is KLUMPP and sometimes it is KLUMP. Occaisionally Lorenz is listed as Lorentz.
Pauline and Lawrence raised their children in the Cincinnati area. Beginnning with the 1882 Cincinnati Directory, Lorenz KLUMPP is found living at an address with no other family members listed in the household. Typical of a directory, only household members that are working are listed. At the time of the 1900 census, Pauline and Lawrence KLUMPP have 6 children living with them in Cincinnati. Lawrence is working as carpenter. Sadly, it is recorded that Pauline has given birth to 9 children, but 3 are deceased.
When Pauline died, August 14, 1911, her short death notice in the Cincinnati Post used the spelling KLUMPP. When the federal census was taken in 1920 and 1930, Lawrence was living with sons in Cincinnati. He died Jul 11, 1939, in Guilford, Dearborn County, Indiana, where he was living at the time with his only daughter Marie. With the death of Lawrence in 1939, the family dropped the second P in their surname. His obituary gives his name as Lawrence KLUMP.
All of Pauline's sons remained in the Cincinnati area and are buried in Hamilton County, Indiana. Marie KLUMPP WIEDEMAN, the only daughter, was the only one of Pauline's children to move to Pauline's home county of Dearborn, Indiana. Marie married a native of Dearborn County and lived there after they married in 1917.
Per Marie's son, Norbert WIEDEMAN:
Marie and her parents and siblings used to walk about 30 miles from Cincinnati to the Yorkville area in Dearborn County, Indiana, to visit their relatives who lived there. That is how Marie met her husband, Roman WIEDEMAN. The Klumpp's lived in town in Cincinnati and did not have a horse and carriage. There were no trains that went to Dearborn County at that time.
